Loss of a pet...

Loss of a pet...

Postby [MXG]Deimos » Fri May 02, 2014 6:59 pm

Not sure how many of you have experienced losing a pet, but this is my first. I had to make the decision to put my faithful friend of 13 years down today. He was there through all of my gaming days and all the times when I needed a smile. I hope he is feeling better now and having fun again. I absolutely miss him dearly. This has hit me so hard. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Saved a black cat from the humane society and named him Apollo. He died from a blockage in his urinary tract. Coulda saved him but it woulda come back again and again. Chose to put him down. Never lost a pet of my own before. I feel ur loss. Good thing is you had all those yrs. Funny thing is the one I lost was partial to me where our other ones always sided with my wife. My luck.

And the other thing i realized real quick is there is lots of other neglected and deserving animals ready to take the place of any that we lose.

Same thing happened to my cat spaz. Except I paid for the surgery that shortened and widened his tract so it could never happen again. Expensive but he is laying next to me and well worth it.

Larry, sorry to hear about your cat man. Losing a pet is hard. We take are pets for granted because they love us unconditionally. We can have a bad day and yell at them for no reason but 20 min later they are back looking for love. So when they finally do leave us it always hits us especially hard because we lost something that meant more than we thought.

Just know you gave your cat a great 13 years and he had the best life possible that you could provide which is a million times better than being a stray.

Sorry to hear about your cat, buddy. I lost both my dogs last year and it was very painful. My first one died in May and the second one died in July. I was not the one who put them down and I don't think I would have been able to do it so I know how you feel.

Thanks everyone. The one image I can't seem to let go of is the fact that I was in the room when he was set free. When they put the catheter in to pass the drugs he was in pain and didn't like it. Then he settled down and seemed to understand what was about to happen. He looked up at me and reached his paw out to me so I took it and stroked his paw as the medication was pushed in to his veins. In the moments after the medication was pushed I never left eye contact with him and continued to hold his paw. I remember it so vividly. I'm over most of the heart break now. Just little things bum me out some. Going in to my closet off my master bath and expecting to see him laying in his favorite spot. Looking up where his food was and expecting to see the food or him there eating. Going downstairs and finding the basement door closed and thinking I need to open it so that he can get down to his litter box, only to remember that is no longer necessary. Fortunately I'm not a weeping mess over it any more, but it still is pain that I feel each time.

With all that said, nothing was worse than telling my little boy. The moment I picked him up from school on friday he was asking if Dallas was ok. I kept telling him we would talk in the car. From the time I first saw him until we made it to the car he asked me no less than 5 times about Dallas. When we started to explain that he wouldn't be coming home, my big hearted boy just melted in front of my eyes. Poor kid just fell apart. It took us a good 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot because we were trying to console him.

But it is all good, my cat is in a better place I'm sure. He is pain free and happy again. To have kept him longer would have just been selfish. I truly hope that if I find myself in his position in the future that someone can do the same for me. Here's a couple more pictures of my boy. He was a goofy cat and I loved him.

Cute cats... I will probably get another lab to keep my black lab company. Pearl doesnt like playing with humans much, but loves other dogs. So we have been discussing getting a playmate for her.

I too had to lay to rest a cat I had for 13 years. It was tough but better now.
