4.0GHz quad on liquid cooling :P
the new penryn can probly do 4.0 on air with unlocked multiplier :P

and the number of applications which are putting to use 4 cores is growing every day. new games, new apps, encoding, decoding video, music, etc, all take advantage of the extra cores (if you are using decent software)
in a year, quad core will be completely mainstream, as there are quad cores already selling in normal retail stores (most accessible to the general public)

anywho, to whoever is saying go dual core, i agree. if you're bent on a quad-core, WAIT.

wait till prices come down and more apps/programs are developed for them

Anguis you just said Quad is failure by saying water cooling. Extra money on bullshit when the Penryn could do it on air. Q6600 is a good deal but meh, we are talking about speed. Oh and Cheese fuck you, lol, I remember trying to play Mame on my old POS. 500mhz Great Success!

For cow's sake:
If I bought a new computer with a dual core processor, I would still overclock it using liquid cooling. I can over-clock a Q6600 Quad Core Processor to 3.0GHz with just air cooling as well. :P

How could you say they are not out when they are being sold on Newegg? They are also available retail from Dell, Hp, and Others.

E8400 and E8500 are Penryn
